Obama

You have finished the end of the African American History Course. I hope you learned some things, challenged some old beliefs and found the course interesting. I have a final question for you...the election of Barack Obama to the office of the President of the United States will no doubt be hailed as a milestone for the rest of the history of the United States. In your opinion, what do you think the legacy of the election of Obama means, has it changed anything in the short term and what impact does it hold for the future? 15 lines minimum.

  1. I think that the legacy of the election of Obama means that now we can't say we haven't come a long way. Us as African Americans are now symbolized by Obama. It will definitely be remembered throughout history. We have the athletes the movie stars and musicians and now we have the president. I think White America will soon have to get a new name for themselves. I think the election of him holds a big impact on my future because what he does now will affect me in the long run as a citizen of America and him as a black man would affect my thought on knowing that if I really want something it could be possible if the work effort is put into it. Even something that no one would've thought over a Hundred years would ever happen and it did. I am curious to see what the future holds for America.

  2. i think the lagacy of the election is one of the most biggest things in history it means that the impossile is posible and you just have to keep pushing even when people tell u u can do it. No matter how hard they put you down you will make it. some things have changed but not much it just gives people hope for a better day.it also encourages those who thought they couldent make it pride in what they want to achieve in life.

  3. Barack Obama has now broken the barrier from they many year of the white man being in power, much like Jackie Robinson and his breaking of the color barrier in baseball. But with Obama being the man runnning our country its on a whole different level now, because we now hold the highest position that you can possibly have in this country. This can now open doors for a darker future...maybe even a blacker nation, because this inspires me to want to run for president...usually all kids say they want to grow up to be president well for the black kids that say it their parents can stop crushing their dreams, because we finally have a point on the presidental score board.

  4. The legacy of the election of Obama shows that although our country is not in the best place we still are able to make progress. No one ever thought that America would see a president of color. It shows that anything is possible. Things have not been the best for Obama but the legacy still hasn't changed. He is still like the "Messiah" to the African American community. The impact it holds for the future is that people my age and younger will go on to follow the dreams they thought wouldn't be possible because of their race, age, or gender. After the outcome of the number of voters in the election people will be more inclined to vote. People were shown that their voices and opinions matter in government and in the world.

  5. I think that some people only voted for Barack Obama because they thought, "Hey! Yeah! Finally a black guy!" or something to that effect. In my opinion, that's just dumb and misguided. It made white people so mad that they tried to "expose" him for having a Muslim name and a white mother. I don't like when they labeled him as the black candidate. Just because his dad was, AFRICAN, not black, didn't make him a good candidate. You should agree with someone's politics and their platform instead of their race or skin color. People were so blinded by his race that some of them don't even realize he's conservative except for his view on social policies. It has changed America and how we view people of color. I think little kids can see that anyone can do anything no matter what their race or ethnicity. Whether he's viewed as black, white, biracial, or just a man, he made history and his legacy will live on long after he's gone.

  6. The election of Obama is important, its very historical and good but it doesn't really mean that much to me. In A country as free as America it was bound to happen sometime. It doesn't really change anything as far as my perspectives go. As long as there are different groups of people, people will feel the need to compartmentalize and have opinions, stereotypes, and preconceptions about people different from them. I don't even like Obama honestly. I respected him when he was running, but it was only because of how much adversity he was going to have to face because he was african american. Not just because he was black. In the future, I think this will be a milestone and people will look back on it and be grateful and everything, but as stated above, it was bound to happen sometime.

  7. I think the legacy of the election of Obama means so much to African American history because it shows that there really is not anything that is impossible for African Americans. When you look at African Americans early history and how hard it was for them to get out of slavery, the last thing on anyones mind would have been that an African American could possibly be elected as president. Also this shows that its a big step in history for African Americans because this shows that America is really moving on and forgetting about racism.

  8. In my opinion, the legacy that Barack Obama will always leave behind is "The first black president of the United States". Barack Obama is hasn't really done anything drastic for the U.S.A. or the world. But if he lives up to his word, the legacy he will leave behind will be more than just the first black president. It will go further beyond that such as on the level of, one of America greatest president. Even through Barack Obama is not a liberal, he continue to push for more soical programs for the middle and lower class people. My second opinion of President Barack Obama is that he is straight forward. He not saying things that people want to hear. He tells how things should or will work out in the near future. He not going to promise any thing that he cannot give or do. In addition, some people want Barack Obama to fail. In my opinion, they just want him to not be a president at all. Living a legacy behind is suppose to be doing something great and exceeding everybody. perceptions about you . That is what the legacy that I think president Barack Obama will leave behind.

  9. I feel that the legacy of this election was a historical even. It shows that America has grown as a country. There were times when African Americans couldnt even vote, not along be President. There were a few who did vote for Obama because he is black, but there were others who looked passed his color and voted based on his views as an AMERICAN. In the short term allowed people of color to be more inspried considering he is the first black president. But to me it really doesnt matter what color you are, more like the things you do to make America stronger. It not only impacts the african american race, but all race of different kinds are inspired to follow there dreams.
